While on the look-out for Bolt, the Trickster gets bored and a little frightened so he decides to get himself some quick cash and make a run for it. He robs a mobile bank being airlifted to Briarwood. Blue Devil stops him just short of accomplishing his goal in one of the most amusing chase sequences you'll ever read. Meanwhile, we learn a little about the down-and-out life of Wayne Tarrant, the beginnings of the Kid Devil, and the motivations of Professor Neemish.

COMMENTS

What a difference an inker makes. I love Keith Giffen, but Gary Martin really was not the best man to complement his pencils. Comparing this issue with something like AMBUSH BUG, which was done at roughtly the same time, the difference is almost unbelievable. Giffen's art has always worked best, in my opinion, when liberally inked in that Kirby-esque fashion, which is exactly what Bob Oksner did in AMBUSH BUG. Don't get me wrong, Giffen does a great fill-in job here. The man has storytelling skills to spare, and his rendition of Professor Neemish is the sort of perfect caricature that only he could produce. His artwork simply looks too...clean here, and that's not what Giffen is about. Still, I wouldn't complain if it were my book. Keith Giffen can guest pencil any time.
